What happens on my first day at a new job?
Starting a new job can be a bit overwhelming. You have probably worried that you will fit in with the current employees, and be able to pick up your job quickly. There is a lot of thought that goes into starting a new job and we totally understand. Knowing what to expect on your first day can set your mind at ease a bit.
Most often as soon as you get to the office, they will have you start filling out paperwork. There is quite a bit of paperwork that has to be filled out when you start a new job. They need personal information for their own records as well as information so they can generate check stubs.
The paperwork can feel a bit overwhelming and you often do not want to be needy and ask questions. Our best tip is to save all of your questions for one time. If you get through all of your paperwork and then ask any questions that you ran into, you are going to be a lot less needy and irritating to your new employers.
Environment
Most often they are going to want you to feel their environment and like it on the first day as well. It is likely that they are going to invite you to be apart of their group and get to know people on the first day. This is a great way for you to make a few new friends.
You should expect them to ask you a few questions about yourself. If you get nervous in these types of situations you can come up with a few things prior to your first day so you are not caught off guard by their questions. Don’t be a robot, but it will help you feel more comfortable if you have thought over what you might say about yourself.
Starting a new job can be hard, but it is almost always really rewarding. Remember that the first day is often filled with a lot of paperwork. You almost never have time to actually do anything pertaining to the job that they hired you to do. You don’t need to become overwhelmed on the first day. Give yourself a week or two before you expect to really dive in and start on your new job.
